Naples, Florida

Remember Memorial Day,

Thanks to all of you that have served this magnificent country in one of the branches of the armed services.

I grew up in a Navy town. Sanford, Florida was a Navy base with air command. We had families that had Dad's that would land on air craft carriers but they were based in Sanford. This was all during the Bay of Pigs invasion and the entire Cuban missile debacle. For a 10 year old, that was a scary time but I felt a bit safer knowing those guys had my back so to speak. I had such great admiration for these people who worked on the base. My fondest memories are of wrapping Christmas presents at the base store for the men who would shop for presents and we would wrap them. They were away from home, couldn't wrap as good as we could and had to send things home. It was a charity event for my sister's organization. That event impacted me. I loved going to the base and to this day, volunteerism is very important to me.

To anyone that lived and worked at the Sanford Naval Air Station, thank you.
Take a minute on Monday, and just remember.
